Waste cannot be avoided and the quantity is increasing. Waste landfilling, as far as tolerated, is highly polluting and tipping fees are skyroqueting. An average north american family produces roughly 1000 Kilo waste per capita p.a. Thus in 2008 on North American continent were produced 317 Million tons of wastes, from which over two thirds were landfilled. Canadians generated 35 Million tons of waste from which 27 Million were landfilled. From 35 Million tons waste 22 Million came from non-residential sources and 13 Million from residential. Canada spent in 2006 over 2 Billion Dollars to dispose wastes, 900 Million being for collection and transportation, over 400 for landfilling, 170 Million for recycling, 195 Million for tipping fees.Ontario spent the greatest amount on recycling.
